Overview

vox. is an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app designed for individuals of all ages, including children. We take privacy extremely seriously — especially because many of our users are minors or vulnerable individuals.

vox. is designed to be privacy-first. Communication data stays on your device.

COPPA Compliance

vox. is designed for use by children under 13 and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without verifiable parental consent. The core app functions entirely on-device without requiring an account or transmitting personal data.

Data We Collect

On-Device Only (Never Transmitted)

The following data is stored locally on your iPad and is never sent to our servers or any third party:

• Phrase history — words and phrases composed using the communication board
• Board customizations — custom vocabulary cards, layouts, and symbol arrangements
• Communication analytics — usage stats displayed in the caregiver dashboard
• Voice preferences — selected voice preset, speech rate, and pitch settings

Optional Analytics (Opt-In)

If you enable usage analytics in Settings, we collect anonymous, aggregated data to improve the app:

• App launch frequency and session duration
• Feature usage patterns (which features are used, not what is communicated)
• Crash reports and performance metrics
• Device model and iOS version

This data contains no personal information, no communication content, and no identifiers that can be linked to an individual. You can disable analytics at any time in Settings > Privacy.

Pro Subscription Features

If you subscribe to vox. Pro, the following data may be processed:

• Azure Neural TTS: When using premium voices or emotional prosody, the text of phrases is sent to Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services for speech synthesis. This text is processed in real-time and is not stored by Microsoft or andriel.net.
• Cloud AI Suggestions: When using cloud-powered AI suggestions, recent conversation context is sent to Azure OpenAI for prediction. This data is processed in real-time and is not stored or used for model training.
• iCloud Sync: Pro users may opt in to sync vocabulary boards and settings across devices via Apple iCloud. This data is governed by Apple's iCloud privacy policy.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Personal health information (PHI) is never transmitted off-device
• No third-party advertising or tracking SDKs
• No Facebook, Google Analytics, or social media trackers
• No fingerprinting or cross-app tracking
• No photos, contacts, or location data
• No account or login required for the free tier
• No sale of data to third parties — ever

ARASAAC Symbol Library

vox. uses symbols from the ARASAAC (Aragonese Centre of Augmentative and Alternative Communication) library. These symbols are downloaded from the public ARASAAC API and cached locally on your device. No personal data is sent to ARASAAC servers — only symbol asset requests.

ARASAAC symbols are provided under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.

iCloud Sync

iCloud sync is available as an opt-in feature for Pro subscribers only. When enabled:

• Vocabulary boards, custom symbols, and settings sync across your iPad devices via Apple iCloud
• Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
• You can disable iCloud sync at any time in Settings > Sync
• Deleting the app removes local data; iCloud data can be managed via iOS Settings

Data Retention

• On-device data: Retained until you delete the app or clear data in Settings
• Analytics data: Aggregated analytics are retained for up to 12 months, then deleted
• Azure TTS/AI: Processed in real-time; no data is retained by the service

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data — all communication data is stored locally and visible in the app
• Delete your data — clear all data from Settings > Privacy > Clear All Data
• Opt out of analytics — disable in Settings > Privacy at any time
• Disable cloud features — use the app entirely offline with no data transmission
• Request information — contact us at hello@jotvoxai.com

Security

• All network communications use TLS 1.2 or higher
• iCloud data is encrypted by Apple's infrastructure
• Azure API calls are authenticated and encrypted
• No sensitive data is stored in plaintext

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
